What are Dental Veneers?
When a patient is suffering from a broken, stained, or damaged smile caused by age, normal wear and tear or injury, dental veneers offer a way to repair the cosmetic damage without more invasive surgery.
Veneers consist of individually designed ceramic shells that are crafted to sit on the outside surface of your natural teeth. They are effectively a natural appearing “cover-up” for any tooth surface, much like fresh paint on a wall in your home. This makes veneers an attractive cosmetic dentistry option for those dental patients who are not comfortable with more invasive procedures that require a full tooth replacement.
In some cases, veneers have been used as an alternative to orthodontic braces, as the shells can be aligned to make your teeth appear to have fewer gaps.
How are Veneers placed?
In order for Dr. Guillory and his San Antonio cosmetic dentistry staff to place the veneers on your teeth, they must first “shape” the existing tooth surface. This “shaping” process allows for the veneer to sit comfortably on top of the natural tooth without negatively affecting your bite and or speech capability.
Dr. Guillory and his staff will always strive to maintain the natural structure of your tooth wherever possible, but in some dental cases, veneer placement may require removing part of the natural tooth structure in order to ensure the quality of your overall smile.
